Stand up to Blue Cross

Insurance companies like Blue Cross have taken the "health," the "care," and the "insurance" out of healthcare insurance. What’s left? Profit -- and they’ll fight any reform that threatens to limit that profit.

Right now, Blue Cross is spending $2 million on a campaign here in California to derail healthcare reform in the Legislature -- the same Blue Cross that makes more money here, and spends less on patients, than any other big insurer.

Blue Cross is fighting to kill any reform this year, and we've got to fight back. We can get quality, affordable healthcare in California this year -- but only if Blue Cross and its millions of dollars aren't the only voice speaking in Sacramento.

Meanwhile Blue Cross is making more money in California, and spending less on healthcare, than any other big insurer.  Blue Cross cancels insurance policies when people get sick, sells insurance that provides no real coverage, and won't sell any insurance to many people who might actually need it -- all the while shipping nearly $1 billion in California healthcare dollars to their parent company in Indiana.

Why is Blue Cross opposing healthcare reform?  Because they have a lot to lose.  They don't want to stop cherry-picking and denying coverage to people because of their medical status or pre-existing conditions. They don't want to be forced to spend 85+% of our healthcare dollars on healthcare, instead of corporate profits and executive salaries -- when they're spending as little as 51% on individual plans today.  They don't want public oversight of healthcare premiums, preventing them from increasing rates without cause.

They may have millions of dollars in profits at stake, but for us, our health, the health of our loved ones, sometimes even our lives, are at stake. I urge you to listen to me and to millions of other Californians, not the millions of dollars from Blue Cross and the insurance industry.
