We're down to the wire on healthcare reform but we are closer than ever to reaching an agreement that will lead to real healthcare reform. The legislative leaders have put forward a proposal that addresses the Governor's major concerns and the concerns of California's families and working people. So tell the Governor to step up to the plate and take advantage of this rare opportunity to reach an agreement on meaningful reform.
Dear Governor Schwarzenegger:
We, the undersigned demand action for real, affordable healthcare this year.
It's down to the wire on healthcare reform and we want you to step up to the plate. Legislative leaders have introduced a proposal that answers your main concerns about expanding the scope of coverage and ensuring that everyone shares the burden in a fair and responsible way. At the same time, the proposal answers the call of California's families and working people for healthcare that is real and affordable.
Listen to us when we tell you that:
1. Healthcare reform must provide help to moderate income individuals to make sure real healthcare -- not just policies with high deductibles and out of pocket expenses -- is affordable.
2. Nobody should be required to buy health insurance if they can't afford it.
3. Cost control measures have to be included in reform, or the erosion of our healthcare will just continue. We have to rein in insurance costs and prescription drug costs as well as help consumers get the information they need to choose lower-cost, higher-quality care.
4. Counties are already underfunded and can't afford additional cuts. Our public safety net must be preserved because we all rely on it.
Please do not waste this opportunity that all of us, including you, have worked together to create. Opportunities to make big, important changes like this are too rare to ignore.
